Join us!

We’re looking for an Associate Data Operations Engineer to join our Data Platforms Operations team. This is an early-career opportunity for someone with strong technical foundations, a real aptitude for data and, most importantly, the curiosity to dig into a problem and figure out what’s happening.

This is very much an operations role. Some days you’ll investigate why data isn’t appearing where it should. Others you might respond to a platform alert, troubleshoot a pipeline, improve monitoring or find a smarter way to automate a repetitive task.

What you’ll do

  • Keep data pipelines and ETL processes running reliably
  • Investigate data, reporting and platform issues
  • Use SQL to query and troubleshoot data
  • Respond to alerts and triage platform incidents
  • Improve monitoring, runbooks and operational processes
  • Identify opportunities for AI-enabled automation
  • Support cloud, Kubernetes and legacy data platforms
  • Work with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines
  • Build your capability across Confluent and event streaming
  • Once you’re fully established, participate in our 24/7 on-call roster

What you’ll bring

  • Around 1–3 years’ experience in Data Operations, Data/AI Engineering, Platform Engineering, SRE or similar
  • Strong SQL skills and confidence investigating data issues
  • Exposure to a cloud environment such as GCP or AWS
  • An understanding of data pipelines, ETL and data warehousing concepts
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD or Python
  • An interest in how modern Data and AI workloads operate in production
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a willingness to get stuck into incidents
  • Curiosity, initiative and a genuine appetite to learn

What you’ll get

Not only will you receive an awesome candidate experience from our caring Talent team, but you’ll get a genuine feel for who we are and what it’s like to be part of our team.

The benefits of working with The Lottery Corporation are pretty good. Just to name a few:

  • Balance work and life with our ‘flex for great outcomes’ approach – hybrid working, plus a range of generous leave options.
  • Reward and recognition programs at all levels. Your hard work won’t go unnoticed.

  • A true sense of belonging. We’re committed to Inclusion & Diversity with a range of initiatives such as our Gender Affirmation Support, employee inclusion networks and diversity memberships and celebrations.
  • Make positive impacts with opportunities to volunteer with our community partners. We'll also dollar match fundraising efforts of our employees lending their support to registered charities.

We’re committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive work environment. We encourage you to let us know if we can make any accommodations, so the process can be more user friendly for you.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians of the lands on which our offices, retail outlets and venues operate. We acknowledge the inextricable link First Peoples of Australia have with the land past and present.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
