This role will join the Personal Investor Technology department. At the core of our strategy is our technology and crew – providing best in class technology services that are designed to scale with our growing business. The Application Engineer, will contribute to the development and delivery of new features, bringing best of class experience to our clients across Personal Investor and Superannuation business.
Core Accountabilities
Capable of designing solutions, writing code, testing code, automating test and deployment
Work effectively with a high degree of autonomy within a collaboratively minded team
Translates technical specifications, and/or logical and physical design into code for new or enhancement to projects for internal clients.
Develops code and test artifacts that reuse subroutines or objects that are well structured and backed by automated tests
Employs contemporary software development techniques to ensure tests are implemented in a way that supports automation
Provides system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases for client/server-, Web-, and/or PC-based software or middleware. Integrates third party products.
Elevates code into the development, test, and Production environments on schedule. Provides follow up Production support. Submits change control requests and documents.
Thoroughly understands software development methodology. Thoroughly understands architecture standards. Trains and mentors staff with less experience. Resolves issues elevated from staff with less experience.
Participates in design, code, and test Inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues. Explains technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients.
Performs systems analysis, including system requirements analysis and definition (e.g., prototyping), and logical and physical design.
Writes the system/technical portion of assigned deliverables.
Communicates systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
Thoroughly understands and complies with IT policies and procedures, especially those for quality and productivity standards that enable the team to meet established milestones. Thoroughly understands and complies with all Information Security policies and procedures, and verifies deliverables meet Information Security requirements.

Strong strategic problem-solving skills to innovation
Knowledgeable in databases and can speak about uses cases for different types
Pragmatic approach to software development including continuous improvements, testing, and user-focused software
Specialization that will make an impact:
AWS (DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, Cloud Formation, Kinesis, SNS, SQS, Amazon RDS)
Test automation and test-driven development practices and frameworks – mutation testing, functional testing (JUnit, Cucumber), mock frameworks (Mockito, etc.), contract testing
Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts, tools and continuous delivery pipelines – Github, Maven, Jira, etc.
Experience in mobile developer (react native), API management platforms, design standards, patterns and best practices is a plus
