About the Role

The SandboxAQ Cybersecurity group is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to build the core data collection and integration fabric of our platform. This isn't just an SDK role; you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the critical first-party sensors that our customers deploy in their most sensitive environments.

You'll be working at a low level, writing high-performance Rust code for passive network analyzers, filesystem scanners, and dynamic & static application tracers. You will also contribute to our third-party integration framework, pulling data at scale from the entire enterprise security ecosystem.

This is a high-impact role with a direct line to solving our most critical customer challenges. We need a pragmatic and systems-oriented engineer who can own problems end-to-end, from design and estimation to implementation and mentorship.

What You'll Do
  • Design, implement, and maintain our suite of 1P sensors in Rust, focusing on performance, stability, and security.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of our 3P integration framework, solving challenges related to rate limiting, data ingestion at scale, and state management.
  • Contribute to our SDK to enable seamless integration for partners and customers.
  • Own new features end-to-end, collaborating with Product Managers and TPMs to refine requirements, estimate work, and deliver robust solutions.
  • Help mentor one of our junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leveling up the team's Rust expertise.
  • Contribute to our team's culture of ownership, accountability, and diligence.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping complex, scalable systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Rust for systems-level programming.
  • Deep understanding of low-level OS/system and networking concepts (e.g., filesystems, network protocols, system calls).
  • Proven ability to design and implement systems that handle data processing at scale.
  • You are skilled at translating complex customer needs into technical requirements and are comfortable working with external stakeholders to solve their challenges.
  • You know how to balance delivering high-quality, production-ready code quickly with long-term maintainability.
  • You thrive in a distributed, multicultural team and can articulate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Optional experience with Java/Kotlin, Golang or Python.
  • Experience in the cybersecurity domain, particularly with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) or antivirus (AV) products.
  • Experience with enterprise security APIs (e.g., CrowdStrike, Splunk, Qualys).
  • Familiarity with Kafka, KStreams, or other streaming data technologies.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be $183k-$256k per year. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This role may be eligible for annual discretionary bonuses and equity.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
